How to export your Raindrop.io bookmarks and import them into Save This One

You can move your Raindrop.io library into Save This One in about five minutes. Export a backup file from Raindrop, upload it to the importer, and press import. Your links, titles, notes, tags, and original save dates come across. Collections do not have an equivalent here, so they arrive as tags.
You do not need Raindrop Pro to export. Backup and export are available on the free plan.
Before you start
- A Raindrop.io account you can sign in to. The free plan is enough.
- Five minutes, plus however long Raindrop takes to build the backup file.
- Nothing else. No command line, no scripts.
Step 1: Export your bookmarks from Raindrop.io
The full-account backup is the right choice for a migration because it includes everything in one file.
- Sign in at app.raindrop.io and open Settings → Backups.
- Click Create new.
- Wait for the email notification. Raindrop builds the file in the background; larger libraries take longer.
- Come back to the same page and download the file.
Raindrop also offers smaller exports if you only want part of your library:
- One collection: open the collection, click Export, and pick a format.
- Selected bookmarks: select the items, then click Export in the toolbar.
- Uploaded files: those are not part of the backup. If you stored PDFs or images in Raindrop, download them separately as a ZIP from All bookmarks → Export → ZIP. Save This One does not store files, so you would keep that archive somewhere else.
Which format should you pick?

Step 2: Import the file into Save This One
- Sign in at app.savethisone.com and open Import in the sidebar.
- Click Choose export file and pick the file you downloaded.
- Check the preview. It shows how many bookmarks were found, how many tags, the date range, and a few titles.
- Press Import. A progress bar tracks the batches.
- Read the summary: how many were imported, how many were skipped, and which links could not be read.
The whole file is parsed in your browser. Only the parsed bookmarks are sent to your account, and only after you press Import.

Two things worth knowing before you start:
- No nested collections. Save This One has no folders at all. A nested path becomes a single flat tag. If you rely on hierarchy to find things, this is the biggest change.
- No full-text search inside pages. Search covers titles, URLs, tags, and notes. Raindrop's search inside page content is a Pro feature you would be giving up.

How to verify the import worked
- Read the summary. It reports imported, skipped, and unreadable links separately. A skip means the URL was already in your account or the link was not a valid web address.
- Check the count. The number imported plus the number skipped should equal the number of rows found in the preview.
- Search for a tag from your export. Pick an unusual tag you used in Raindrop and search for it. The links should come up with the tag attached.
- Open one old bookmark. Check its note and its date. The date should match when you saved it in Raindrop, not today.
- Look for one collection path. Search for a tag like
design-inspirationif you had a nested collection. That confirms folders were converted.
If a link is missing, search for its URL. If it is there, it was imported; if it is not, check whether the row was in Trash or had no http or https address.
Limits
- 5,000 bookmarks per file. Larger libraries need to be split into multiple exports and imported one at a time.
- Duplicates are skipped, never overwritten. Importing the same file twice is safe and adds nothing the second time.
- No export yet. Save This One can import but cannot export your bookmarks today. If having an export button matters to you, that is a real gap and Raindrop, Pinboard, and Karakeep all offer one.
- 25 MB per file. A larger export should be split by collection.
Frequently asked questions
Do I need Raindrop Pro to export my bookmarks?
No. Backup and export are available on Raindrop's free plan. Pro adds automatic daily backups, but a manual backup works on the free tier.
Will my Raindrop collections be preserved?
As tags, not as folders. A bookmark in a nested collection gets a tag made from the path, such as design-inspiration. Raindrop's Trash folder is skipped and its Unsorted folder imports without a tag.
Can I import twice without creating duplicates?
Yes. The importer skips any URL you have already saved and reports it as skipped. It never overwrites an existing bookmark, so your titles and notes are safe.
What happens to my Raindrop notes and highlights?
Notes come across as notes on each bookmark and are searchable. Highlights do not: they are a separate Raindrop export and Save This One has no highlights feature.
Can I go back to Raindrop later?
Yes. Your Raindrop account is untouched by this process. Nothing is deleted, and you can keep using both tools at once while you decide.
